about

"51°48′02″N 10°37′02″E" was inspired by a visit to the Harz Mountains in Germany. It's made up of manipulated recordings made on The Brocken, the highest peak in the range. Many people have heard the name of the mountain because of the phenomenon of the Brocken Spectre but don't realise where the name came from. This reflects a journey both on the mountain and back through it's history, from the present day via its time as a strategically important and very secretive Soviet and Stasi listening station during the cold war, the pagan period when it was used for the practice of witchcraft, right back to just the natural landscape. It's a pretty special place, maybe a little spooky, steeped in legend and I loved it there. It's a national park and surrounded by primary forest, a beautiful and almost alien environment. We got the steam train up the mountain and walked all the way back down through the forest, crossing the old East/West border to the river and the village at the bottom. If you want to know more about the place, just paste the title into Google. I think you'll enjoy reading about it.

D/BAM UK

Opportunistic sound recordings, manipulated to explore, among other things, the ways in which nature, natural sound, human activity and human-made sound interact, affect and distort one another, and to interrogate the internal and imagined sounds experienced during periods of mood disturbance, dissociation and insomnia. ... more
